WATCH Hollie Smith Will You Be The One
Hollie Smith
As NZ's premier soul diva, Hollie Smith sits on a throne as yet unchallenged by the many imitators she has inspired in her long career. After releasing an EP at 16 and going on to spend formative years singing with legendary band Trinity Roots, Smith released her debut album Long Player in 2006, which went on to sell double-platinum within New Zealand. The same year she sang on Don McGlashan's Silver Scroll-winning song "Bathe In The River", and claimed "Best Female Solo Artist," "Breakthrough Artist of the Year," "Best Aotearoa Roots Album" and "Best Producer" at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2007 for her own solo record. After having to extract herself from a much lauded but ultimately disappointing agreement with Blue Note Records in New York, Smith produced her latest offering "Humour And The Misfortune Of Others" in 2010, which again saw her at number 1 in the RIANZ charts.
Her voice remains one of the most recognizable and ubiquitous within NZ music, as her many collaborations span genres diverse and widespread.
