Native Tongue is proud to announce the signing of New Zealand indie luminary Shayne Carter.

From early days in the first wave of Flying Nun with his band Bored Games, Carter went on to become the frontman for internationally celebrated acts such as The Doublehappys, Straitjacket Fits and Dimmer.

Throughout his celebrated career, Carter has been honoured at the New Zealand Music Awards with awards for Best Vocalist, Top Group and Top Album, and at the B Net Awards with the Lifetime Achievement award and the 'Male Fox Of The Year' award simultaneously. He has been inducted into the NZ Rock Hall of Fame and has received the NZ Music Legacy Award, and his song "She Speeds" with Straitjacket Fits was voted number 9 in APRA's all time list of greatest New Zealand Songs. He is currently a touring member of The Adults with Native Tongue writers Jon Toogood and Julia Deans, and also performs as Shayne P. Carter.

In nearly three decades of making music Shayne has earned himself a reputation as one of New Zealand's most innovative and consistent writers, with his prolific output never diminishing in inspiration or originality.

Native Tongue New Zealand General Manager Jan Hellriegel states, "We consider Shayne Carter to be a national treasure, and we are very proud to be representing his work."

Shayne P. Carter will be performing at St Jerome's Laneways Festival on January 30th at Silo Park, Auckland.

Perth outfit, Split Seconds are a very welcome addition to the Native Tongue roster.

Currently in the final innings of recording their debut album (due to be completed in late January), and with the Australian cricket team rolling into their home town this weekend, the thinking person's pop band from Perth took a quick tea break to sign a worldwide deal with Native Tongue.

Announced in December 2011 as one of triple j's Next Crop acts, the Split Seconds' story began in the summer season of 2010 when "Bed Down" was picked up by triple j. Taken from their independently released self-titled debut EP the song introduced Split Seconds' compelling pop tunes to a national radio audience. Since then they have risen in the batting order with top draw performances at the Homebake,Pyramid and Southbound festivals as well as slipping in a rip-roaring New Year's Eve set at The Espy in Melbourne between overs at the MCG.

After lapping up the joys of Test Match cricket at the WACA Split Seconds will be returning to the studio to finish recording their debut album.

Native Tongue is thrilled to have joined forces with Split Seconds, and look forward to representing the Split Seconds catalogue worldwide. Sean Pollard is a tremendous creative talent, and his ability to craft compelling and honest songs is an undeniable indication that he will be a prolific career-songwriter.

Native Tongue are thrilled to have signed Neon Indian!

Neon Indian is the brainchild of Alan Palomo, who's 2009 debut record Psychic Chasms not only assisted the forming of a genre that, though known by a few names now (hypnagogic pop, glo-fi, chillwave), summoned a very unique and specific electro-mangled sound.

Music critics praised Palomo for his adventurous new sound, and he was tapped to perform at various festivals and also scored opening slots for bands ranging from Massive Attack and The Flaming Lips to Phoenix.

Native Tongue International Manager, Jaime Gough has said "Alan has a unique approach to multi-layered synth production and is a compelling songwriter. He will be writing music for a long time and will always be ahead of the game."

Native Tongue are excited to welcome Californian upstart, Hanni El Khatib to their roster.

Hanni El Khatib grew up in San Francisco raised on a molotov cocktail of skateboarding (he was creative director at HUF for 6 years), punk rock, and 1950s and 60s classic Americana. Influenced by pioneers of early rock and R&B, the multi-instrumentalist and producer derives his unique sound from a menagerie of inspirations, including '50 and '60s blues, soul, garage rock and doo-wop. It's malt shop music for those who drink them spiked with bourbon or in Hanni's own words "these songs were written for anyone who's ever been shot or hit by a train. Knife fight music."

Native Tongue's international manager, Jaime Gough has said ""When I heard the doo-wop throwback "Dead Wrong" and the bluesy cocktail of raw guitars and tough lyrics of "Loved One" I was hooked. If you get the chance to see Hanni live this Summer, do it!

Hanni's debut album Will The Guns Come Out was released on September 23 via Pod/Inertia

Our friends over at Amplifier.co.nz have chosen their Top 20 New Zealand albums for the year, with Native Tongue's catalogue taking out 5 of the 20 places on the list. The Unfaithful Ways' "Free Rein", Andrew Keoghan's "Arctic Tales Divide", Bachelorette's and Mulholland's self-titled albums, and Cut Off Your Hands' "Hollow" have all received rave reviews for their outstanding 2011 releases.
