Jan Hellriegel
Jan Hellriegel was a member of 1980s Dunedin bands Working With Walt and all female band Cassandra’s Ears, before going solo and signing a solo record deal with WEA 1991. She sung back vocals for The Mutton Birds with their hit single Nature and Straitjacket Fits version of “So long Maryanne”. She released two albums to Australasian critical acclaim It’s My Sin 1992 and Tremble 1995. Her last release before All Grown Up was a 1996 single Melusine. In 1993 she was awarded the Most Promising Female Vocalist and Songwriter of the Year at the New Zealand Music Awards.
Following her success Jan continued to write, work and tour with fellow musicians both here and in Australia, including a high profile tour with Jeff Buckley in Australia before taking several years out of the industry to raise her young children. In 2009 the video for her 1991 single “The Way I Feel” was placed second in a New Zealand Film Archive Wall of Fame online poll to find New Zealand’s greatest music videos.
Jan's current album All Grown Up was produced by Wayne Bell and recorded at Roundhead Studios, Auckland. All Grown Up is the culmination of 12 years of song-writing for Jan and is her third album.
