WATCH The Phoenix Foundation 40 Years
The Phoenix Foundation
Very rarely does a band capture the imagination of an entire country. However, the Phoenix Foundation seem to have done just that in their 10 year career, spanning four albums, two film soundtracks and undeniable international success.
The combination of the writing powers of Samuel Flynn Scott and Luke Buda creates a musical universe that can teeter on the edge of romance and absurdity, of emotion and imagination that has brought the band from a Bnet sensation to an internationally acclaimed group, invited to play on Jools Holland, scoring five stars in both the Guardian and The Independent newspapers in the UK and garnering music awards back home.
Scoring the soundtracks for Oscar-nominated director Taika Waititi's features Eagle vs. Shark and Boy has brought the talents of this band to a whole new audience. With both films garnering international acclaim, their score for Boy also won "Best Original Score" at the 2010 NZ Film Awards.
Their latest release, Buffalo, received 8 nominations at the 2010 NZ Music Awards, along with all three technical awards. They have released the record in Europe through Memphis Industries and have been touring extensively throughout 2011 in support of the release.
